New Photo Props for Peanutenvy

After I've redesigned my dolls to be bigger and better with stronger stitching and overall stability, I've also found a fun new way to take pictures. I know this method has been around for a long while, but I never really wanted to use it until now: the chalkboard prop. For some reason the dark background helps showcase the dolls without washing them out with the overexposed look I'd get from a white background. Its also a great way to have your name in the picture without having to go through the trouble of a watermark! (A good way to cut THAT corner) Not to mention all the fun things you can include...quotes, name of the work, fun drawn designs...am I thinking too much into this??

Shows and Shops around Chicago...

As I try to branch out and sell my wares in places other than Etsy (which if you sell jewelry there, you know how it can be a pointless endeavor) I've found a few venues I rather like in the Chicagoland area. My first consignment operation was with the very unique, artisan based shop Blue Eyed Jack in LaGrange, IL. It's been a place I could sell my jewelry when Etsy has proven to be impossible...and lame. Its a great shop to check out...they even sell vintage if that's what you fancy.  And for my dolls, I've found that Local Goods Chicago is a nice fit so far AND I get to teach there too! If you're free November 30th and want to learn how to make bird nest pendants, by all means join us!

One more announcement: I'll be taking part of the Third Thursdays held by Beehive Chicago THIS Thursday so come out for vintage goods of all kinds with a bit of handmade thrown in. Maybe even get a bit of Holiday shopping done. Be there or be square ;)

Yep, Still moving..the journey continues

UGH, this move is quite the arduous task! I suppose when you are moving 5 people, two etsy shops, and a whole lotta crap, its an uphill battle. Oh, and I forgot the mass off stuff in storage...we also have stuff still stored in the last building we lived in. I wonder if its still there.

What's taking so long is this: we bought a foreclosure. Yes, its a long and drawn out process but well worth it considering the price tag and quality of the home. Its a lot of house for a little money and in a nice area. It does, however, require some work - thankfully it is all cosmetic. This part is taking longer than I want. All we really need to do is slap on some paint and trim and its totally livable. Our yard is small - but all standard Chicago lots are, but we do have a beautiful blooming tree with a branch that grew in the most perfect spot to hold a swing for the kidlets.

I'd like to also mention that because this was a foreclosure we bought it "As is" and technically any problems found on the property were our problems to correct. Luckily we bought from the bank who was also our lender and got a few perks. One of the biggest and best was a brand new heating system. That floored our Realtor who said banks NEVER do this kind of thing on a foreclosure...apparently ours did. They also scraped and repainted windows, fixed gutters, painted the garage, fixed any peeling paint in the house, replaced some plumbing fixtures...and all this came to a hefty price tag for the bank. For the price we actually paid for the home compared to the price of all the things the bank fixed I sorta feel like we ripped them off...but then I think about how interest works and realize how silly a thought that was!

But all in all, we got the Chicago Bungalow we've always wanted and when we add all these blessings together it's really reassuring to know the Big Guy is taking care of us.

We're Moving!

I haven't been around these parts for a bit because we are movin' on up! ..but not to the east side. It's scary over there. Anyway, packing has become something I no longer want to be a part of. Every time we pack a ton it doesn't seem to make a dent...it just looks more cluttered than before. UGH. Note to self - hire professional movers!

I made the front Page again!

This time it was my Digital Sunrise coasters that made it. Lets hope I make a few sales from this!
